After years of dreaming, April 1st finally arrived: Mariam Jalloh opened the doors of her own hair salon, All Nations Hair Salon, at Lange Mare 42. It was a busy and successful day, filled with appointments and a celebration for friends and family.
Mariam fled Sierra Leone to the Netherlands in 2002, a country that was no longer safe after 10 years of war. As a child, she dreamed of becoming a hairdresser. Although she taught herself the craft, opportunities in her home country were limited. When she arrived in the Netherlands, she seized the chance to follow a hairdressing course. After obtaining her diploma, she immediately started a home-based salon. After working from home and building up a client base, she took the step to rent a chair in The Hague. Every weekend, she was there ready for clients, while she worked in Leiden during the week.
On April 1st, Mariam made her childhood dream come true after much sweat and tears. All Nations Hair Salon stands for inclusivity and diversity. “The name All Nations emphasizes my desire to create a place where everyone feels welcome. As a refugee, I know better than anyone how important it is to feel at ease and be yourself. At All Nations Hair Salon, we welcome all nationalities and genders. We are not just a hair salon, but also a family. My clients can talk to me about anything, not just the weather. Many clients feel comfortable in my chair, and I find that very important.”
I specialize in all hair types and offer my services for men, women, and children. My motto is: “Just call, and I’ll deliver.” I look forward to welcoming you to my salon soon.
